Dinah Vargas - Confronting Police Brutality
VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED - For Dinah Vargas, a Latina resident of Albuquerque NM, hearing in the news that one more person had been killed by the police used to mean that one more criminal had asked for it - until she just couldn’t escape the fact anymore that a. she respected life more than that and b. many victims didn’t "deserve" it. Then came the murder of Trayvon Martin in Florida. Then came the televised murder of a homeless man named James Boyd in her hometown; an incident that brought a DOJ investigation upon Albuquerque PD. As a result, Dinah became a passionate community organizer in the hope of spurring public opposition to a pandemic of unjustified, often racially-motivated homicides committed by under-trained, trigger-happy police officers throughout the U.S..
